Sponsored Reviews are just advertising …

Just picked up the weekend papers and was browsing through the lifestyle and leisure sections that all papers now have. Looking to get some good hints on what airlines to use, places to visit, products to use? Well, you won’t find it in our papers which are full of sponsored articles. For example;

“I loved this ship so much, I booked again before I got off”, Sydney Morning Herald, “The writer travelled as a guest of Silversea.”

“No kids, no cars at this fun, hidden Barcelona hotel”, The Age, “The writer stayed as a guest of The Wittmore and Small Luxury Hotels of the World”

“Time bottled”, AFR, “The writer was a guest of Amouage”

Travel- “Beauty and the Beast”, AFR “The writer was a guest of Banyan Tours”

Surprising, all these writers enjoyed their sponsored experiences!

The articles are just a plague – and it would be interesting to understand whether the sponsors also actually paid the newspaper for running the article. If so, it should be carry an “advertising” label.
