The United States is going to be lonely and the world may be relieved

We have gone rapidly from a period of “US Exceptionalism”, their words not ours, to one where a US recession appears imminent – based on the actions of one man, economic gibberish and the inability or unwillingness of the US political system to constrain his powers or liking for extortion.

The US is going to be (very) lonely and perhaps that doesn’t matter to a country in which so few people have passports.

Australian politicians should have read the tea leaves well enough to know that there is absolutely no appetite for Australia to bend and kiss Trump’s ring, the vision is appalling.

There is however an appetite for a new world “rules based” trade order including, for example, Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea. This grouping could eventually even embrace a much wider group of nation, including China, in a fashion that actually sees something positive grow from this madness.
